2 Remanded over alleged armed robbery in Ilorin

A driver, David Adeyemi and his colleague, one Ireti Famose were yesterday remanded by a magistrate court, sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for their alleged involvement in armed robbery.

The two accused persons were brought before Magistrate Ibrahim Dasuki for the offences of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery contrary to section 6(b) and 1(2) of law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and belonging to gang of thieves contrary to section 306 of penal Code Law.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the accused persons invaded complainant's residence, Victor Atanda and his colleagues at Amicable Villa hostel, in Oyun and disposed them of Infinix handsets valued at N160,000 techno handset valued at N80,000, an iPhone 6s also valued at N180,000 and a Samsung phone which also cost N150,000.

The accused were reported to have carted away items worth N570,000 and unspecified amount of money.

When the complaint was lodged at the F-SARS office in Ilorin, a team of operatives was mobilised and through technical intelligence, one iPhone 6s among the stolen items was traced to one Gafar Ojulari of Challenge area, Ilorin, the Police report divulged.

The FIR further noted that Ojulari confessed to have bought the phone from the two accused persons.

On the strength of Ojulari confessional statement, the FIR revealed that the first accused person was traced to High Court area of the state capital, where he was arrested while his ally Adeyemi was subsequently nabbed.

The accused persons' counsel, one Mr Jimoh of the state Ministry of Justice informed the court that she would come formally for the bail application of her clients.

The prosecutor, Inspector Zacheous Folorunsho in his submission objected to the bail of the accused persons.

He prayed the court to remand them in prison custody.

The magistrate in his short ruling remanded the two accused persons while the matter was adjourned to January 3rd, 2019.
