Kwara Yet to Establish Functional Family Court - Afolayan
Afolayan made the revelation in Ilorin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
She said although the government had approved the establishment of the court since 2009, it could not function because of the lack of accommodation and other logistic problems.
The commissioner said cases affecting children that were supposed to be handled by the court were currently being treated by some lawyers in the state Child Rights Act Committee.
She appealed to the government to provide accommodation and other logistics for the state Ministry of Women Affairs for the take-off of the court.
The commissioner said government had domesticated the Child Rights Act since 2006, leading to the establishment of Children's Parliament in the state.
Afolayan added that the parliament had been fighting the cause of children since its establishment.
"As a result of the creation of the Children's Parliament, children are aware of their rights, they know they have a right to live, to good health, education and right to solve problems confronting their colleagues, " she said.
She stressed government's determination to continue to solve problems confronting children in the state.
