Ex Kwara Senatorial aspirant opposes call for Nigeria restructuring

Date: 2018-08-24

A former Senatorial aspirant in the 2011 general elections in Kwara, Alhaji Lasisi Jimoh, has opposed the call for the restructuring of Nigeria, as a solution to the problem confronting the nation. Jimoh made this condemnation in Ilorin on Wednesday while delivering a lecture at the 20th Eid el-Kabir dinner, organised by a group called the Third Estate.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Third Estate is a nonpolitical association of professionals in various fields of human endeavours, who are indigenes of the Ilorin Emirate.

The politician in his lecture entitled, "Ilorin Emirate and the National Question", disagreed with the claims of some advocates of restructuring, who believed that it would usher in the desired development in the country.

Jimoh argued that many great countries did not embark on any restructuring before attaining greatness in their economies among other areas of development.

He noted that Nigeria, during the colonial era and post colonial era, had undergone various restructuring and amalgamation processes before achieving the present development status.

"What we need in Nigeria is not restructuring but a reorientation of the philosophy of government and the commitment to the processes of developing the country," he said.

According to him, what the nation needs is honest people at the helm of affairs, who will utilise the resources of the country to further develop it to become greater.

In his remark, the President of the Third Estate, Alhaji Ahmed Bolaji-Nagode, reaffirmed the determination of the association to continue to complement government's efforts in ensuring the well-being of the Ilorin Emirate.

Bolaji-Nagode, said the association had sponsored the training of some youths from the emirate in solar light installation and supervision at the National Power Training institute.

He said the association had also earmarked the sum of two million for the training of 15 youths in ICT to enable them address the challenges of that sub-sector in the area.

NAN reports that the event was attended by eminent indigenes of the Ilorin Emirate at home and in the Diaspora including the representatives of Gov. Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.
