PDP Alleges Plot to Cause Chaos in Offa
The Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Offa Local Council of Kwara State, Goke Rabiu, has alleged plan by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to instigate crisis in Offa town.
Rabiu, yesterday at a press briefing in Offa, accused one of the national leaders of the ACN who is a native of Kwara State as allegedly being behind "some falsehood" about the activities of the PDP in the area in some national dailies.
Offa recently became a hot bed for politicians who are natives, due to the nullification of the election of the chairman of the council, Saheed Popoola. Popoola had won the election under the platform of the ACN before the annulment by the Election Petition Tribunal.
According to the local leader of the PDP, "it is a clear case of delusion and high point of hypocrisy for the ACN leader and his cohorts to equate the ACN with the defunct Action Group (AG) of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
"It is a common knowledge that the ideals, programmes and thrust of the AG were clearly different from that of the ACN, besides the fact that 90 per cent of core, known and tested Awoists in Nigeria are not members or sympathisers of the ACN as a political party."
Reacting, Chairman of the ACN in Kwara, Kayode Olawepo described Rabiu as "an uninformed person", noting that the PDP in the state would not be allowed to take over Offa Council in the re-run polls "irrespective of his lies to the press".
Meanwhile, the chairmen of ACN in all the 33 local councils of Oyo State have pledged their loyalty and support for Governor Abiola Ajimobi, saying they remained committed to his transformation agenda for the state.
The party chairmen gave the pledge in a statement issued at the end of their meeting with the governor in his office at the weekend.
While commending the governor for ensuring unity and cohesion within the party, they expressed support for all the actions he had so far taken to ensure that the party remained one indivisible entity in the state.
The party chieftains also noted the rapid transformation of Ibadan, the state capital and other towns and cities in the state and lauded Governor Ajimobi on his policy on employment generation and youth empowerment in the state.
"We particularly want to acknowledge the facelift being given to Oyo State through weekly environmental sanitation and beautification of the environment. This has really changed the face of Oyo State," the chairmen said.
