Family Robbed of N2.2m Six Days to Daughter's Wedding
Last Monday was a black day for the family of Pa John Olanrewaju Ajetunmobi of Pipeline area in llorin, the Kwara State capital, as a four-man gang forced its way into their compound and took away US dollars worth N2.2million at gun point, six days to the wedding of their first daughter, Oluwafunke.
The robbery occurred eight hours after Oluwafunke's brother, Mayowa, arrived from the United States for the wedding.
The masked hoodlums arrived at the residence in the dead of the night and scaled the fence, according to findings.
When the men of the underworld gained entrance into the parlour, the family members were planning for the marriage of their daughter.
As soon as the miscreants, armed with guns and dangerous weapons, entered through the door to the sitting room, they asked for the US dollars reportedly brought by the eldest son of the family, Mr. Mayowa Ajetunmobi from abroad.
Speaking in an interview with City Rove on Monday, Pa John Ajetunmobi described the incident as unfortunate.
He stated that the robbers might have gotten the information about the cash through an insider, adding that the incident occurred barely eight hours after the arrival of his son from overseas for the wedding.
Ajetunmobi said his son might have been trailed by the armed bandits from the airport.
He said, "I strongly believe that the robbers got the information about my son's arrival through an insider. In fact, they came into our house just eight hours after his arrival, meaning that he was being trailed by the bandits.
"They burgled into our sitting room at about 2:00AM when we were discussing about the planned marriage, and immediately one of them pointed his gun at Mayowa, demanding for the N2.2m he brought from the United States; though the money was in US dollars"
"They threatened to kill Mayowa if he refused to release the money to them. After they left with the money, we shouted for help from members of the neighbourhood but to no avail" the septuagenarian recalled.
