Kwara Records 90% Coverage Of Yellow Fever - Official

Date: 2018-02-20

The Kwara Government says it has immunised about 90 per cent of the targeted population for the Yellow fever vaccination in the state in the just concluded programme.

Dr Abimbola Folorunsho, the Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, made this known to newsmen while assessing the performance of the agency on Monday in Ilorin.

She expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout of children within the age of nine months to five years for the immunisation.

The medical practitioner noted that the vaccination could not be conducted from house-to-house because of the nature of the vaccine.

Folorunsho said: "The vaccine is not meant to be taken from house-to-house because they are injectables; but people expected us to bring it to their doorsteps to be vaccinated."

Folorunso, however, said that the exercise was taken to religious houses while clerics also helped in the enlightenment of members of their congregation on the programme.

She described the exercise as hitch-free and successful, attributing it to the high level of enlightenment on the programme in the state. According to her, the immunisation against measles among the children will start in the state on March 3.

She appealed to mothers to ensure that their kids were vaccinated against childhood killer-diseases.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 10-day vaccination was concluded recently in all the 16 local government areas of the state.
