Council Poll: KWHA Speaker Commends Kwarans... Calls for Investigation of Involvement of Cultists in the Election

The People of Kwara State have been commended for demonstrating high sense of maturity, decorum and peaceful conduct in the weekend's Local Government election in the State.

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, made the commendation, while reacting to the outcome of the Saturday's Council Poll in the State.

Dr. Ahmad in a Statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdul Rahman Sanni, noted with delight that the high sense of decorum, maintained by the entire Citizenry of the State, inspite of the determination of the opposition to prevent the election from holding, by causing mayhem, before and during election.

He said the State could only attain the desired political transformation and accelerated socio- economic development, when the people of the State place collective and communal interest above parochial considerations.

The Speaker was however alarmed, over the unprecedented incidences of snatching of ballot boxes, burning of electoral materials and confrontation of electoral officers.

" In the rich history of electioneering process in Kwara State, we have never experienced a single incidence of snatching of ballot boxes, worst still, i have not heard of a single arrest, therefore, we should all join hands to ensure that it never happen again in the State ", the Speaker said.

Dr. Ahmad then enjoined the State Police Command and other security agencies, to investigate these incidences and apprehend suspected Cultists and thugs brought to the State, at the wake of election, to cause mayhem and prevent election from holding.

The Speaker who particularly eulogised the All Progressives Congress members and the entire people of the State, for their resolve to maintain peace and support the current ruling party, as demonstrated in the outcome of the election, assured that the APC led government, will continue to be responsive to the yearnings of our people for socio- economic transformation of the State.
