Date: 2017-09-11

The authorities of University of Ilorin yesterday hinted that no fewer than over 90,000 candidates are seeking admission into the institution for the 2017-2018 academic session.

The management however said that, only 11,000 students would be offered admission.

Already, the affected candidates will start the university's screening exercise today (Monday) in both the main campus, (Ilorin) and Lagos centre of the university.

The Deputy Director, Information, Office of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Kunle Akogun, who spoke with journalists in Ilorin yesterday, said the students to be offered admission would be based on the carrying capacity of the institution.

The spokesman of the university said the administration of the out-going Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali expanded the academic programmes of the university by adding three faculties to make the number of the institution's faculties to 15.

According to him, "the university is known for its stable academic calendar, making the institution, the most sought after university in the country.

He promised that the administration of the vice chancellor-designate would continue to uphold the virtue and standards of the university.

Akogun also noted that the university witnessed rapid physical infrastructural development, improved research and teaching activities and stable power supply on the campus to facilitate academic activities on campus.

He added that the university now has an automated digital library, the first of its kind in the country, where books and other reading materials could be accessed all over the country.

Akogun also used the occasion to dispel the rumour making the rounds that the university had shifted its screening exercise that would commence today to next week Wednesday.

He said the management of the university has not shifted the screening exercise adding: "The exercise would commence as scheduled and will start from today in both Ilorin and Lagos centres of the university.
