A 23-year-old man, Mustafa Kamal of Olodo Compound, Okelele, Ilorin, Kwara State, who allegedly broke into a shop where he attempted to steal valuabbles, has been dragged before an Ilorin Magistrate Court.

The accused appeared in court on a one-count charge of attempt to commit theft, contrary to Section 95 of Penal Code Law.

Trouble began for the accused following a report on July 23, 2012 at the office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Service Command, Ilorin, by one Akeeb Opaleke of No. 33, Ile Tapa Compound, Okelele, Ilorin, that the accused burgled his shop.

According to the complaint, the accused at about 2:00am broke into his shop along ita-Adu, Amule, Iya-Balogun Area, Ilorin, through the window and attempted to steal a refrigirator and stabilizer before he was arrested.

The First Information Report (FIR) on which the accused was charged stated that the accused committed the offence.

The prosecutor, Imam Abdulmajeed, a legal officer with NSCDC informed the court that investigation into the case was not yet completed, even as he left the bail of the accused to the discretion of the court.

The trial magistrate, Mrs. S.B. Mohammed, resolved to release the accused on bail since the prosecutor did not object to his bail. Consequently, the court admitted the accused to bail at the sum of N10,000 and two sureties in like sum who are ordinarily resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

The matter was adjourned until August 28 for further mention.
