Rainstorm wrecks havoc in Ilorin

Date: 2017-04-04

Friday will remain unforgettable in the minds of many who were affected in the rainstorm that ravaged the city of Ilorin, Kwara State damaging property worth millions of naira.

There were shattered roofs, electricity poles, smashed ceilings and collapsed concrete structures littered across the street of the metropolis.

Words could not console Pastor Folademi of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Upper Gaa-Akanbi area, Ilorin as he gazed in pain at his church building that was crumbled by the heavy down pour last Friday.

When the scene of the disaster was visited, the clergy man, who was sited at the corridor of the church ruin declined speaking with our reporter.

Meanwhile, a pioneer member of the church, who begged not to have his name in print later reacted to the incident saying 'it is the lord's doing and no one can question Him why He allowed it to happen.

Speaking further, he said he was around the church premises when the rain started, "The wind was much, I was just looking outside through the window to observe things, but suddenly I heard a loud sound, I never think of the church that it has collapsed, until when a friend rushed in to call me, on getting there, I discovered that the fall was mighty.

"Why it pains me much was because the church was built by members who worked here day and night to ensure the building stands and most of the materials used were donated by them too. Where can we worship for next Sunday now" he said. A resident of the area who simply identified himself as Shedrack described the situation as sad.

According to him, the building is very much vulnerable to hazards because it is very tall and there is no substantive pillar that holds it on both sides.

Speaking further, he said "whenever rain is been delayed for so long, the day it will eventually fall, it is always disastrous, that is what has happened here today," he said.
