Ilorin residents scramble for fairly used materials

Date: 2017-02-01

Thousands of people including widows in llorin, the Kwara capital, yesterday, struggled to purchase fairly used clothes and other assorted materials provided by a charity initiative foundation at reduced prices. Although over 500 people were able to acquire some of the items before it was exhausted, there were about 10, 000 people present to scramble for the materials.

Other items sold at the event included shoes, electronic appliances, and several valuable items.

The sales of the fairly used items took place at Akereiata in llorin East Local Government area of the state.

The founder of the charity initiatives and Director of School of Preliminary Studies, University of Ilorin, Prof Muhammed Mustapha-Akanbi said he embarked on the gesture to ensure free distribution of wealth.

He said several of the items were given out free of charge to some indigent people at the event.

Speaking with National Pilot, Akanbi said "the materials distributed could not go round because there were over 10,000 people that had registered to purchase the items".

Some of those who were given items at no cost and those that bought expressed their gratitude to the initiator. The event featured Health Talk and Career Talk for 60 students from selected secondary schools in the state, free medical tests on BP and Blood Sugar among others.
