Ipata butchers to relocate to new abattoirs Jan - Developer

Butchers at Ipata Market in Ilorin, Kwara State will on January 2nd relocate to new abattoir located along Akerebiata within the metropolis.

This was disclosed by the representative of the consultant firm of the modern abattoir, Foladotun Ventures Ltd, Oyedotun Kunle on Saturday.

Speaking to our reporter, he said "The modern abattoir was an initiative of the state government and Ilorin East Local Government in partnership with the company to provide a modern, conducive and befitting abattoir in the state.

"The butchers section of the Ipata market will be relocated come January 2nd and we have completed the construction of the abattoir and registration by intending butchers came to a close now as all forms for the registration had been exhausted and there is no more space for allocation."

Giving the technical analysis of the modern abattoir, the Technical Partner, Engr. Yomi Ogunbiyi, said there are 300 spaces at the abattoir and each of the space can accommodate three traders at a time.

"It also has 28 slaughtering slabs that can accommodate 6 cows, with electricity and water supply and good drainage. The cattle ranches can accommodate about 250 cattle depending on their sizes."

According to him, there are goat ranches which can accommodate as many as 250 of the animal and slaughtering slabs.

He disclosed that the abattoir has three standard cold rooms, two functional boreholes, 150 KVA generator, 350 KVA transformer connected to the national grid; overhead, underground and surface water tanks with total capacity of 950, 000 litres, and parking spaces among others.

However, the Youth Leader of the United Butchers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, Alhaji Moshood Itadun, who spoke with our reporter, said government needs to put some facilities in place to make it conducive.

He said they would be meeting with representative of the state government to discuss the issue for smooth relocation to the new abbatoir.
