Two arraigned for murder
For allegedly killing a man over a missing sheep, two persons, Umar Garaba, 68 and Abaubakar Mohammed, 23 both of Lokomushi Fulani Camp, via Bode Sadu, Kwara State, have been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court.
They were dragged before the court on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, mischief and culpable homicide and they have since been ordered to be kept at Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala Area, Ilorin.
Police arrested the accused sequel to a report on June 16, 2012 at the Area Commander's office, Bode - Saadu by one Serki Hassan Sidi of Lokomushi Fulani Camp that the accused connived with others now at large to kill his son.
According to the complainant, information reached him from one of his sons Usman Sidi of the same address, that while himself and Umar Sidi were riding motorcycle along Lokomushi to Aderan road the accused and nine others waylaid them and marcheted them.
He alleged further that Umar was able to escape but his brother was marcheted to death by the accused after which they burnt him and his motorcycle to ashes.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that Investigation conducted at the State CID, lloirn, revealed that the accused and nine others now at large callously conspired and killed the 26-year-old deceased and set him and his motorcycle ablaze over a rift between his father and Riskwa Mohammed family in respect of a missing sheep.
The offences for which the accused were brought before the court contravene contrary to Sections 97, 316 and 221 of Penal Code, law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Al-Hassan Jibrim told the court that investigation into the case is in progress with a view to arresting those at large.
He also objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them at the prison custody, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The trial Magistrate, Mrs. I.O. Olawoyin stated that the offences for which the accused were charged were capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable.
Consequently, Olawoyin ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala, Ilorin and adjourned the case till July 26, 2012 for further mention.
