Kwara revenue agency generates N168.6m from 9 LGAs

Date: 2016-10-13

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service says it collected N168.6 million as Internally Generated Revenue from the 16 local government councils between January and September, 2016.

KWIRS chairman, Dr. Muritala Awodun, stated this on Wednesday in Ilorin, while briefing journalists.

Awodun said: "For the first quarter of 2016, the agency generated N32.8 million, the second quarter was N53.2 million, while N20.5 million was generated in the third quarter, making a total of N168.6 million."

According to him, the agency was able to mobilise revenue collection in the various local governments of the state because of the Joint Revenue Committee, which was established by the state government.

He said: "For the three quarters of 2016, we were able to generate N168.6 million revenue due to the Joint Revenue Committee, that was established by the state government to mobilise revenue collection."

The chairman said that the agency had designed persuasive means of encouraging the citizens to pay their taxes promptly without forcing them. He noted: "With the economic recession going on in the country, Kwarans are finding it difficult to pay up their taxes."
