Emir of Ilorin Condoles With Families of Railway Accident Victims

Date: 2016-05-09

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has commiserated with the families of those who died in the ghastly accident involving two trains at Jebba in the Moro local government area of Kwara State on Saturday.

The monarch who expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident in his condolence message signed on Monday by the National Secretary of Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, stresed that such occurrence demands urgent probe to further curb future occurrence.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari added that, "I received the Railway accident with great shock and sadness. It is unfortunate that this incidence occurred at a time the federal government is looking inward towards repositioning the sector to further guarantee safety and also provide comfort for travelers.

"There is no doubt that the railway is one of the safest mode of transportation but the remote and immediate causes of this dastard incidence which has thrown many families into a state of mourning after losing their beloved ones requires adequate attention."

While urging the authority of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, (NRC) to expedite actions towards reassuring commitment to the lives and property of their passengers, the Emir warned officials of the corporation to be vigilant and be abreast with the traffic rules as well as Railway signals.

He also warned residents and motorists in Ilorin and Kwara State at large to always take cautious measures and desist from crossing the rail line without adequate attention to further avoid the incessant killings as recorded in the recent time.
