State creation should not be priority in Constitution review - Bukola Saraki
Former Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, said on Friday that state creation should not be the priority on issues to be considered in the constitution review.
Saraki, who is representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the Senate, said this in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Uyo.
"In my own personal opinion, I don't think state creation should be the priority for now.
"I think the challenges ahead of us as a country, is far beyond state creation.
"What we should address during the review are those things that are germane and important to the development of the country," Saraki said.
He said that considering the security challenges being experienced in the country, state creation should not be a priority for now.
On his appraisal of the 2012 Senate retreat held in Uyo, he said the concept behind the exercise was very useful.
He described the event as a formal gathering to brainstorm on issues affecting the country at the moment.
The retreat had the theme: "The National Assembly and National Security: Securing the Future for Development.''
Saraki said the theme was important as it would give the senators the opportunity to get themselves together and discuss a more reliable way of addressing the security challenges confronting the country.
