KK Eleja Advocates Amendment Of National Industrial Court Act
Kehinde Eleja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has observed the need for the National Assembly to amend the section of the Nigeria’s constitution that established the National Industrial Court.
Eleja who was a former chairman of Kwara State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) made the suggestion during an interview with LEADERSHIP Sunday in Ilorin.
He noted that unlike other courts in the land, when the industrial court decides on a matter, its decision is final without any opportunity to make an appeal to a higher court.
He therefore called on the National Assembly to do the needful and ensure that the constitution is amended for people to have access to ventilate their grievances up to the Supreme Court in view of the sensitivity of labour issues.
He also suggested that the law ought to be amended to reduce the number of cases that get to the apex court.
According to him, some of the delays in the administration of justice arise partly because some cases that ought not to get to the Supreme Court get there such as minor quarrel on a parcel of the land.
He therefore appealed to the state governors to assist the judiciary in their states by making it independent to ensure quick dispensation of justice .
