Kwara AG, Shittu differ over FG's dialogue with Boko Haram
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kwara State, Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade, and a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Wahab Shittu, have expressed divergent views on the Federal Government's proposition of dialoguing with members of the Boko Haram sect.
In separate interviews with our correspondent in Ilorin on Saturday after the end of stakeholders' meeting for state counsel of the Kwara State Ministry of Justice, they deplored the rising insecurity in the country.
Ajibade however said dialogue with the sect was difficult since they had not identified themselves.
He said, "Dialogue is with somebody you can identify. We have not been able to identify who the Boko Haram members are. Dialogue might be difficult because where are they? Who do you want to dialogue with?
"There is already a systemic failure in this country. The government should go back to the drawing board.
"Our police presently do not have the capacity and intelligence to tackle Boko Haram. If you do not have the intelligence prowess, there is no way to track the terrorist moves. The FG should retrain the police."
On his part, Shittu said the FG should enter into dialogue with the sect.
He said, "Dialogue between FG and Boko Haram is an option because if you do not dialogue with the sect and you choose the war option, at the end of the war, what do you do? You come to discuss. All over the history, apart from massive destruction of lives and property, the combatants at the end of the day still dialogue.
"I want the FG to see the Boko Haram insurgency as a multi-dimensional problem and so a multi-dimensional solution should be used. There are elements of religion, ethnicity, poverty, politics and ignorance."
