I'll involve royal fathers in crime-fighting - Kwara CP
New Police Commissioner in Kwara State, Sam Okaula, has said he plans to engage traditional rulers in the battle against crime in the state. Specifically, he said he planned to implement an "intelligence-based and "community-based" policing in tandem with the catch-word of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, in policing Nigeria.
In his maiden meeting with the press on Thursday, CP Okaula said his intelligence-based policy would rely much on intelligence gathering, particularly from the media and members of the community that would involve traditional rulers and community leaders in all towns and villages across the state.
The CP sounded a note of warning to criminals in Kwara State, pointing out that he would bring to bear his experience from a special background in the national intelligence squad and as head of Special-Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, in Lagos.
"I want to sound this note of warning that criminals are no longer safe in the command. They should begin to have second thoughts now," he declared.
Also, Okaula said he had come to tell his officers and men that the era of corruption in the police was over, and promised to create zero atmosphere for policemen who derive pleasure in collecting bribes in the state.
