Muslim students kick against ban of hijab
The Board of Trustees of the Muslims Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) yesterday warned the federal government against banning wearing of hijab by Muslim women in any part of the country.
This is as the group vowed not to accept the ban of anything that is part of Islamic doctrine as divinely ordained by Allah.
?The group made this known in Ilorin while briefing journalists at the end of a meeting of MSSN Board of Trustees, Kwara State, where the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Justice Abdulkadir Orire said wearing hijab was a divine commandment from Allah.
The union made its position known on the heels of calls for the banning of hijab which they believed was aiding Boko Haram suicide bombers in the country. Orire, the pioneer Grand Khadi of Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal disagreed with those ascribing the spate of bombings to those wearing hijab describing it as "unfortunate."
He said anyone caught perpetrating such criminal acts should be punished rather than banning the wearing of hijab by Muslims.
On the call for removal of religion teachings from schools curriculum, the MSSN BoT chair said doing so would further compound moral decadence in the society.
