Kwara communal crisis: 72 people arrested
About seventy-two people have been arrested by the Kwara state police in connection with the recent communal clash between Share and Tsaragi communities.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday in Ilorin, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Esosa Amadasun, said forty among the arrested persons were already being prosecuted in court for their alleged involvement in the communal crisis.
The Police Commissioner added that peace and normalcy had since been restored in the two communities.
Also, the Kwara State Government has further relaxed the curfew imposed on Share and Tsaragi communities in the wake of recent clashes between the two communities.
The curfew will now run between 6 pm in the evening and 6 am in the morning effective from Friday.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Isiaka Gold, the government has reviewed the situation in both communities and resolved to relax the curfew to allow residents time to resume their normal activities.
Also, Mr. Amadasun said nineteen suspects had been arrested in connection with a recent clash between two rival cult groups at Agaka and Fagba areas of Ilorin metropolis, where one life was confirmed lost.
He said the arrested people were currently undergoing investigations, adding that they would soon be charged to court. Meanwhile, new outfits for the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, have been announced.
Members of the special force will now wear all black outfits with FSARS written on their T-shirts.
The new dress code became necessary for easy identification and control in order to give the outfit a distinct identity throughout the federation.
