Parallel Union Executive Emerges At Kwara Varsity
The crisis rocking the Kwara State University (KWASU), is yet to abate, as two factional chairmen of the Academic Staff Union have emerged, with each claiming to be the authentic.
While one faction has the backing of the school management, the other has the full support of the national body. The later is threatening to use all legal means to unseat those it described as 'puppet of the management'.
The Kwara State University has been engrossed in crisis over the plan of the academic staff to unionise. The plan did not go down well with the management and thereby, led to the suspension of some of the lecturers which the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rasheed Na Allah, termed illegal assembly without permission.
The intervention of the State Governor, however, settled the first crisis, as the suspended lecturers were pardoned and the school directed to allow unionism in the campus.
The school management was said to have issued a circular for the formation of unions which led to the emergence of Issa Abduraheem executive.
<>The Chairman of the other faction, Daud Adeshola, however, described the purported election as 'kangaroo', adding that he still has the backing of the national body, as the authentic leader of the executive. He wonders why the school interfered by installing its 'puppet'.The majority of members, according to him, still recognises him as the authentic leader of ASUU in the campus adding that the national body would soon settle the issue in his favour.
He called on the State Government to again, wade into the issue to prevent the management from turning the school to theatre of crisis.
