Kwara Govt Relaxes Curfew in Share/Tsaragi, Sets Up Judicial Commission of Enquiry

The Kwara State Government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on Share and Tsaragi Communities in the wake of the recent clashes between the two communities. The curfew will now run between 3pm and 9am effective Thursday, 24th December, 2015. The decision was part of the resolutions of the Kwara State Security Council which held at Government House, Ilorin today.

The meeting, which was chaired by the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, reviewed the situation in both communities and resolved to relax the curfew to allow residents time to resume their normal activities on a limited basis. The Kwara State Police Command and other security agencies were also directed to fish out and prosecute those suspected of involvement in the acts of criminality witnessed in Share and Tsaragi during the recent clash.

The Council also directed the establishment of a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to review the immediate and remote causes of the violent conflicts, identify suspected masterminds for possible prosecution and give recommendations for the prevention of future occurrences in the area and other parts of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold, Council also directed the establishment of an administrative board of enquiry, headed by Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, The Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Zulu Gambari to review the the role of the traditional rulers of Share and Tsaragi in the conflict and recommend the appropriate roles of traditional rulers in the maintenance of peace among communities in the state. Other members of the board of Enquiry are the Emir of Pategi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Chatta Umar, and the Olomu of Omu-Aran, His Royal Highness, Oba Charles Ibitoye

The Security Council also strongly commended the outgoing Brigade Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, Ilorin, Brigadier-General A. A Nani, for his unusual commitment and sterling contribution to peace and security during his time in his state and wished him greater success in his service to Nigeria.

Alhaji Gold said the Security Council directed the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State to give commercial banks and as well as Omu-Aran Community written assurances of his command's preparedness to provide adequate security for the commencement of banking operations which were suspended following a spate of armed robbery attacks in the town.

Council also got assurances from the security agencies of their preparedness to maintain peace and security during the Yuletide and New Year celebrations.
