Alumni Association elects new officers
At its 12th National Congress held penultimate Saturday (November 14, 2015), the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) Alumni Association has elected new national officers to run its affairs. Those elected were Dr. (Mrs.) Rhoda Olape Oduwaiye, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Educational Management, University of Ilorin, National President; Dr. Musa Abdullah, the Provost, College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, 1st Vice-President; Mr. Wale Fasakin, the MD/CEO, Wale-Fash Resources Limited, 2nd Vice-President; and Dr. Mahfouz A. Adedimeji, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Secretary General.
Others were Mr. Agboke Mutiu, the Managing Partner of RRA & Associates, Harmony Chambers, Abeokuta, Assistant Secretary General; Mr. Nesta Taiwo Oluwatoba, a civil servant in Ondo State, Treasurer; Mrs. Oluwayemisi Mafe, a Marketing Communications professional in Lagos, The Public Relations Officer; Alhaji Abbas Olanrele Mohammed, a Deputy Director with the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Financial Secretary; Mr. Laeef Folorunsho Oladimeji, a Senior Lecturer and Director of Information at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Social Secretary; Dr. Oparinde Olayiwola Rauf, the Deputy Registrar at Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Auditor 1; and Mr. Adavi Abraham, the composer of the Unilorin Anthem and a Permanent Secretary in Kogi State, Auditor 2.
Welcoming the alumni to the Congress earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Ganiyu Ambali (OON), reiterated the role of the Association as a critical stakeholder in University's developmental process. Prof. Ambali stated that the Alumni Association's support was critical to the conceptualisation as well as effective implementation of reforms, which could exert considerable influence that would keep elevating the University's status. The Vice-Chancellor, who expressed happiness with the Alunmi's conducts, urged them to be more supportive of the development of the University as being done by their foreign counterparts, where the Alunmi often assist in reducing the financial burden of their alma maters.
Eleven State Chapters of the Associations were in attendance. They are Abuja (FCT), Niger, Kwara, Osun, Ogun, Katsina, Kano, Lagos, Kogi, Ondo and Oyo with 86 participants, 50 of whom were delegates.
