Government deploys 20 additional trucks to Kwara
The Kwara State Government has deployed 20 additional trucks to clear the refuse backlog in Ilorin and environs as an ad-hoc measure to eradicating fresh dumpsites.
This follows the closure of the existing dumpsite by the host communities, leading to refuse pile up across the metropolis.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, the state government expressed confidence that, with the deployment of additional refuse collection trucks, the refuse across the Ilorin metropolis will be cleared within 48 hrs.
The statement said ten trucks are working from Oddota through Baaboko, Agaka and Ojaoba, while the other ten trucks are on the Judge's quarters to Zango-Maraba-Emirs Road and Oja oba axis on Sunday and will be deployed to other routes for the rest of the week.
It therefore called on residents in the metropolis to exercise patience as the situation would be remedied by next Wednesday. The state government also reassured the public that would dialogue with the communities in which the dumpsites are currently located.
While reiterating its commitment to promoting the welfare of all communities in the state, the statement said government officials were also working round the clock to ensure that Kwara State's reputation for cleanliness is restored within the shortest possible time.
