NMA provides free medical services, drugs to Kwara community
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has provided free medical services and drugs to the people of Agbeyangi community in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara.
Speaking at the commencement of the exercise on Thursday in the community, Dr Musbau Olawale, Vice Chairman of NMA, Kwara Chapter, said more than 3000 people were targeted for the free medical services. He said the exercise was part of activities lined up to mark the 2015 Physicians Week in the state.
Olawale said that Agbeyangi was chosen for the exercise because of the health challenges the people in the community were facing.
He explained that the community is 50 Km away from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and its remoteness had made it difficult for the dwellers to access medical service easily.
He called on government at all levels to invest on health care services in rural areas in the country.
Responding, Alh. Usman Aliyu, leader of Agbeyangi community, expressed gratitude to the association for identifying the community for its corporate social responsibility services.
He said that his community was faced with numerous challenges, including bad roads and lack of health care services.
Aliyu appealed to all tiers of government and philanthropists to come to the aid of his people. (NAN)
