Omu Aran Youths Protest Outrageous Electricity Billing
Some youths and women in Omu-Aran, in Kwara State, on Wednesday, staged a protest over alleged exorbitant billings, extortion and poor customer relations by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria (IBEDC).
Daily Times gathered that a meeting called to resolve the differences between parties had ended abruptly, forcing the youths to take to the streets on Wednesday.
The protest, which started from IBEDC building at Oluseyi Area in the town, saw the protesters marching to the local government secretariat and the office of the Area Commander, Omu-Aran police command.
Chief Bisi Owolabi, who led the protesting youths, expressed the community displeasure with the services being provided as well as the attitude of some workers of the electricity company.
He said the bone of contention was the alleged exorbitant and outrageous bill received by the residents from the company, especially charges for the month of August.
