Ilorin: Tanker caught fire at Asa Dam

A tanker being used to siphon petrol from pipelines by some vandals at Asa Dam, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, caught fire.

The vandals were said to have dug a hole and scooped fuel from one of the pipelines in the area when the tanker suddenly caught fire.

Head of the security team that supervises the pipelines from Ilorin to Ogbomosho, Alhaji Issa Amasa, said his members were on their way to a meeting at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation depot in Oke Oyi when they saw the fire.

Director of the state fire service, Mr. Olayinka Raji, said firefighters arrived the scene immediately they were alerted and prevented the fire from spreading to other areas.

The Public Relation Officer, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, Ibrahim Kadir, who confirmed the incident, said the vandals fled when they saw officials of the anti-vandalism squad.
