Muslims Umah in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Friday observed eid-el fitri celebration amidst tight security at the Ilorin eid-praying ground.

Although Ilorin, unlike in some north- eastern states where insurgents have continued to pose security threats to places of worship, had not recorded any case of security breach during festive period but the state police command said it would not leave any stone unturned.

Ahead of the yesterday’s celebration, security operatives in the state comprising police, civil Defence Corps, and FRSC had deployed over 10,000 personnel to ensure hitch –free celebration in the state.  

As early as 7 am on Friday, a combined team of men of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Vigilante, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) manned strategic positions along Asa dam road, Adeta, Ibrahim Taiwo road, Unity, post office, pakata among others.

Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in his remarks after the observing the two rakat prayer led by chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Mohammad Bashir Solihu, called on Nigerians to show love to  each other for the country to witnessed the desired change its citizenry were yearning for .

He enjoined Muslims to allow the virtues of Ramadan continue to reflect in their daily lives by imbibing the culture of sharing, sacrifice and perseverance.

The State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed was represented at the eid praying by the chief of staff, Government House.

The prayer was however held under a peaceful atmosphere.
