200 women benefit from breast, cervical cancer screening in Kwara
The LEAH Foundation, an NGO sponsored by Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, wife of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, had screened more than 200 women of breast and cervical cancer in Ilorin.
The governor's wife made this known on Monday during a sensitisation programme in the state capital.
Mrs Ahmed, who was represented at the event by the Administrator of the NGO, Mrs Oluwatoyin Opawoye, said that the exercise included awareness lecture on ways to curb the spread of the disease.
She said that the screening were held simultaneously at the Emmanuel Baptist Church Premises, Sabo-Oke Ilorin and the University of Ilorin Sport Centre. Opawoye, who urged women to go for periodic cancer screening, enlightened the women on how to carryout self breast examination aimed at ensuring early detection of the disease.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs Fatimah Yusuf, described the exercise as timely and laudable and expressed appreciation to the governor's wife for paying attention to women's health.
It would be recalled that the governor's wife had, through the Foundation, established 28 cancer screening centres across Kwara as part of her efforts to reduce the killer scourge.
