Tsaragi Community Cries Over Alleged Victimization Of Members In Kwara

Date: 2015-05-25

People of Tsaragi community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State has appealed to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to address the on going political victimization of the members of the community especially civil servants who were alleged to have supported the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the last general elections.

The group under the aegis of Tsaragi Stakeholders Forum in statement signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Mariam Alhassan, expressed concern over alleged unnecessary denials and arbitrary transfers of the victims.

According to the statement, "To our total dismay and shock of everyone, immediately after the last general elections, the community of Bokungi in Tsaragi District of Edu Local Government Area of the state had all the school teachers in both their primary and junior secondary schools transffered without a single replacement to teach the pupils/students up to date simply because APC lost the polling units located in the community ?to the PDP.

"Also, was the summoning and threatening of the NYSC members posted to do their primary assignments to leave the school by one Alhaji Muhammed Buhari (Makama Tsaragi) who is also the Director of Personnel Management, DPM, in the local government council claiming to be acting on order from above."

Mariam Alhassan further disclosed that, "The innocent students were denied the constitutional and moral rights to participate in the on-going Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination, JSSCE, that has to do with their future careers and resultant implication for human capacity development and nation-building.

"It is very sad and pathetic to see the lives and future of the innocent children being jeopardized simply because their parents exercise their respective fundamental human rights of political freedom to vote for candidates of their choices as provided for in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

The statement however maintained that "these are children of peasant farmers who were just privileged to have the junior secondary school established by the State NYSC office as part of its social responsibility to its host community because of its proximity to the orientation camp- Yikpata.

"Till now, the schools are forced to be under lock and key.Being peaceful people, the community had since written a complaints letter to State government without any prompt necessary action taken. To this end,we implore people of conscience to kindly join us in the struggle for total rescue of these agrarian community, and serious condemnation of this unlawful, inhuman, immoral, heartless, uncivilized and unethical action being perpetuated by these enemies of the State."

He therefore opined that with the conclusion of the general elections accross the country, "the key concern of every patriotic Nigerian should be positive intentions and interests of genuine nation-building, peaceful o-existence, economic prosperity, political and social stability so that the new administration will have a very good, smooth and conducive atmosphere for quality service delivery to Nigerians."
