Miyetti alleges rampant killing of members in Kwara

Date: 2015-05-11

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), a national body of Fulani headherders, has alleged on-going attacks on its members in Kwara State resulting in death of 44 persons within a month. National secretary of the group, Usman Baba Ngenzarma made the allegation in Abuja during an interview adding that attacks took place in four different locations.

The locations according to the secretary are: Alafa in Moro Local Government Area in April where 29 persons were killed; Bode-Sa'adu, 12; Osin 9, while four persons were killed at Oru-Agu while on their way to a meeting between their members and host community.

Some of the attacks, the secretary said were carried out on their members while on the way to grazing. Others took place at their domain after been raided by unknown assailants.

He said following series of reports, an arrest was carried out during the last incidence, which is less than a week now, but unfortunately the accused was released the following day.

"It seems there is conspiracy in the whole issue with backing of some highly placed individuals, but we want to call on Kwara State government in particular to resolve this problem and ensure justice was done about the past cases. "We are always encouraging our people to calm and be law-abiding," Ngenzarma said.
