Aftermath of elections, protesters invade Olosi's Palace

Date: 2015-04-13

Some unidentified hoodlums in the early hours of yesterday attacked the palace of Olosi of Osi, Oba Salihu Adasofegbe Arowobeku I, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

According to The Herald investigations, not less than four vehicles were destroyed as a result of irreconcilable political differences arising from the result of House of Assembly election, released by INEC in the area.

The hoodlums who were said to be protesting against the monarch's partisanship and involvement in the upturn of the House of Assembly election result in favour of a female lawmaker seeking re-election in the community, vented their anger on the traditional ruler by destroying some of his properties in his palace, located in Agbara Compound, Osi.

The monarch with his family members, who narrowly escaped the protesters, ran away from the palace to save their dear lives, through a security gate in the palace.

The Herald gathered that the traditional ruler with his family members allegedly took refuge in one of the chieftains of a leading political party's house in the community.

Unhappy with the escape of the traditional ruler, the protesters went to Chief Bayo Owolabi's house who is said to be an ally of the monarch and destroyed two of his vehicles in front of his residence in Barake Compound, Osi.

Some of the vehicles of the traditional rulers destroyed included a Mezedez E200 and 5000 and two other vehicles owned by Chief Bayo Owolabi.

The hoodlums who destroyed perimeter fence of the private residence of Olosi located behind Osi Central Secondary School in the town, ran-sacked everywhere but could not lay their hands on the monarch.

The protest lasted for about two hours before the arrival of security personnel, including the army and the police who ensured the return of peace and orderliness though without making any arrest.

Oba Salihu in his reaction while speaking with The Herald appealed to the state government to come to his aid and the community to ensure normalcy, thanking God however, that no life was lost in the incident.
