No plan to dump Kwara deputy gov, says Saraki
Leader of the All progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara state, Dr. Bukola Saraki has dismissed insinuations that his party was set to dump the state’s Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisra for Senator Gbemisola Saraki. There had been rumours few days to the presidential election of March 28, 2015, that one of the conditions for the defection by the female Saraki to the APC was that she would be given the Deputy Governorship slot as compensation for her move. But the APC leader who spoke with newsmen at his Iloffa Road residence in Ilorin, the state capital, said such insinuations were mere efforts by the enemies of the state and should not be given any attention.
He also denied allegations that his sister was a mole for the APC while she was in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), another issue that has drawn Gbemisola and the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar into hot verbal exchanges for some days now.
The APC leader said contrary to the insinuation, Gbemisola had rejected the position in 2011 and also rejected it under the PDP, adding “such talks are meant for the garbage. The constitution is very clear on this matter.” On the allegation of spying for the APC, Saraki noted that apart from the biological relationship he shares with her, most of the PDP leaders making the allegations are products of the Saraki political dynasty.
The Minsiter of National Planning had soon after the gubernatorial election accused Gbemisola of staying in the PDP to work for his brother, adding that her loss of the gubernatorial ticket only hastened her departure from the party. He said, “Senator Gbemisola Saraki is not an issue to me. Kwarans have been talking about liberty; liberty from Saraki family. So, if Gbemisola goes back to her brother, it is the same thing. Gbemisola has been a mole in the party, she was there to play a role and she has played that role and left.”
