Fuel scarcity: Motorists allege sharp practice by marketers
There is no end in sight to the fuel scarcity being experienced in Kwara State as independent marketers have continued to dispense to motorists at N100 per litre.
Many of independent marketers under the aegis of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) hinged their decision to dispense at unauthorised price on the non-availability of fuel at the Ilorin depots.
The situation, they claimed, made it impossible for them to sell at the official price of N87, saying that they were buying at an exorbitant price from private depots in Lagos and other places, making it impossible for them to dispense at the approved rate.
Many of the major marketers were also not dispensing fuel to motorists. It was gathered that Oando and MRS stations at Post Office and Unity Road junction, Forte Oil on New Yidi road, among others, claimed they have exhausted their stocks.
However, motorists said that the independent marketers manipulated their pumping machines metres to under-dispense to unsuspecting buyers.
"I bought N2,000 fuel from a filling station around New Yidi Road and I discovered that the fuel that was sold to me was not commensurate with the amount, it was sold for N100," said a motorist.
He advised the marketers not to add to their woes, saying, "This is very bad. We should not be adding to our problems."
