Kwara PDP accuses chairman of working against party
The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused its chairman, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo of colluding with some party members to impose governorship flag bearer on the party other than the winner of 11th December, 2014 primary.
The party deputy chairman, Alhaji Haliru Manko made the allegation in Ilorin, the State capital while addressing newsmen on the controversy surrounding the emergence of Senator Simeon Ajibola as Kwara gubernatorial candidate.
Speaking on behalf of the State Expanded Executive (SEC), Manko said the furore generated by the emergence of both Ajibola and Mallam Yinka Aluko as PDP candidate for Kwara central was uncalled for.
His words: “It is regrettable that the party chairman that swore to oath of fidelity to the party ideas will be discrediting the same party, its aspirants and delegates that freely elected them”.
“It was illogical of Oyedepo to claim that it was the national leadership of PDP that affirmed and announced the candidature of Ajibola”.
According to him, the party’s constitution has mandated the Returning Officer of the governorship primaries to declare winner on the spot as strictly adhere to by Governor Gabriel Suswan who conducted the rescheduled primary.
“This has clearly exposed the chairman as one with dangerous motives that was capable of further denting the image of the party.
“We are constrained to ask: Is Oyedepo expecting PDP national secretariat to alter the result of a primary that all party stakeholders, co-aspirants and elders have adjudged to be free and fair?
“As far as we know, PDP has conducted governorship primaries in the 36 States, not one of the State chairmen has made divisive statement like Oyedepo is doing”, Manko added.
He explained that Oyedepo’s statements have portrayed him and his sponsors as bad losers who gladly place inordinate, narrow interest over that of the party cohesion.
The deputy chairman alleged that the Minister for National Planning, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar and Hajia Bola Shagaya have been holding the party to ransom with a view to imposing candidate of their choice.
