An Open Appeal to Iyiola Akogun's Conscience. By Sideeq Bola

Date: 2014-12-09

If going by the political profile and history of Iyiola Akogun, one would see the picture of a man aversed to oppression. One would discern a man with a passion for social justice. One would see a seeker of truth.

Going by your life and political profile, the present day revolutionary PDP unanimously agreed to make you the arbiter of their party at the Kwara state chapter. They are looking forward to you to dispense truth and justice as and when due.

But the realities of the present PDP liberation struggle have scandalized your personality. If only you knew how freedom lovers in all the nooks and cranies of Kwara hold you in high esteem. You would have resigned your present appointment as chairman Kwara state chapter of PDP.

This is because many people have been spreading a rumour that you have reached a compromise with some cabal(s) to produce a desperate aspirant at all cost. My reply to them was that the Iyiola Akogun I know is a man of unquestionable integrity. That you will never have allowed your good name and prestige to suffer rebuke in the lips of Kwarans.

But I began to experience some cracks in my cosmic egg when many events began to unfold. One, I was told that you refused to recognise a PDP local government chairman whom you have been directed to recognize from your national body. I was also told you allowed another delegate list, doctored by some selfishly condescending individuals to be used for the state house of assembly primaries in Ilorin West. You were also aware that a parralel house of assembly primaries was conducted in Ilorin west Local government but you never came out to cancel an election where Oba Ajara was captured beating, wounding and maiming party members.

At another brutal House of Representatives primaries, some delegates were beaten and rushed to the hospital, yet you never cancelled the primaries. But you cancelled today's (8th Dec, 2014) primaries when an aspirant refused to observe the etiquettes of a free and fair primaries, entering in the night with some large numbers of unindentified and unaccreditated delegates, when they knew that their plan to conduct a parallel primaries was foiled earlier.

Now that you have cancelled this gubernatorial primaries, what will happen to other threat-induced primaries conducted in Ilorin West and Asa?

Dear Honourable Iyiola Akogun, I know you to be a practising Christian, and a servant of The Living God, worshipping at the Zion Baptist Adewole. Whatever you do today will go down in our records. The story of your activities will be relayed to your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and your generations yet unborn.

Good and brighter future lies ahead of you, your children and your family. Please do not allow some people to rubbish the honour, dignity and integrity that you have built for yourself and your family over the years.

Your age-long integrity is at stake. The destiny of your dream Kwara rests on your shoulder. I know you to be a die-hard freedom fighter, who has never compromised on issues of social justice. I want you to follow your church mind, listen to your conscience, resist any temptation, intimidation, aggravation and trepidation.

Our struggle for a liberated Kwara must not be lost. Our vision of a State of Harmony conceived in political liberty should not be eclipsed by any covert or overt desperation for power from any individual or group.

Our dream of a political freedom in the State of Harmony should not be battered, shattered and scattered, even when many of the delegates have been assaulted, battered, shattered and scattered around different hospitals.

These experiences are mockery of our revolutionary struggle. Kwarans (home and abroad) are hearing, reading, watching and listening.

Hon. Iyiola Akogun, the original chairman of the Kwara state PDP, please do something that will make your name be written as the architect of a liberated Kwara.

Give the course of this struggle to reason, not to treason. Give the fight to the legitimate delegates, not the illegitimate''delicates''. Let posterity remember you for your sacrifices. Let them sing your praise. Let your good name open the door of honour and glory to your children. Let the people of Kwara be proud of you. Be the Iyiola Akogun we once honoured and adored earlier.

Allow me to make a poetic allusion from one of the musical verse of Dr.Sikiru Ayinde Barrister Omo Agbajelola,he says:

BI AO TIE B'ERU ORUKO TI AWON OBI SOWA,O TO KI A B'ERU ORUKO TI AWON OBI WA NJE.NIGBATI ORUKO NAA O BAJE LORI WON,NI AWA NAA SE NJE ORUKO YEN NI ISINYIN.TANI O JE PE ARA RE NI OMO SATANI,BELETANSE OMO JUDASI?

Translation:

IF WE ARE NOT CONSCIOUS OF THE NAME WE WERE GIVEN BY OUR PARENTS AT BIRTH,WE SHOULD CONSIDER THE NAME OF OUR PARENTS. IT IS BECAUSE THE NAME WAS GOOD, THAT IS WHY WE ARE STILL BEARING THEIR NAMES. WHO DARE CALL HIM/HERSELF THE SON OR DAUGHTER OF SATAN OR THE BETRAYING JUDAS.

Looking back nostalgically, I also remember the song of Kayode Fashola who says:

RANTI OMO ENI TI IWO NSE OOO,RANTI OMO ENI TI IWO NSE OOO,
RANTI IBI TI WON TI BI E,ATI ILE T'OTI JADE WA.

Translation:
REMEMBER THE SON OF WHOM YOU ARE AND THE HOME YOU CAME OUT FROM.

Hon Iyiola Akogun, fear God, not man (the hallmark of your church). Be original! Be yourself!! And never walk in anyone's shadow!!!
