The primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the state House of Assembly was held across the 24 constituencies in Kwara State yesterday under a peaceful atmosphere.

As early as 8am, members and supporters of the party had started converging at venues designated for the election.

In Ilorin South Constituency, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Justice, Dr Ali Ahmad, emerged unopposed with 317 votes cast by the delegates at the primary.

The election was conducted at the official Chalet of Ilorin South Local Government, Fate road, Ilorin while stern-looking security operatives were on standby to ensure the exercise was hitch-free.

Announcing the result, the Chairman Election Monitoring Committee in the area, Alhaji Kareem Owokoniran, said the APC aspirant polled all the votes cast at the election.

Ali Ahmad, who spoke shortly after the result was announced, thanked delegates for the trust reposed in him, promising not to betray them if eventually elected in the forthcoming general elections.

The lawmaker, who is currently representing Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, recently opened up on his bid to contest at the State Assembly level, saying as a representative of the people, he was ready to serve in any capacity his constituency wanted him.

This medium had exclusively reported that Ali Ahmad was being groomed to take over from Barrister Razak Atunwa as Speaker of the State House of Assembly if given the mandate in the election proper.

Reports from Oke-Ogun Constituency of Oyun Local Government indicated that the incumbent lawmaker, Barrister Kamal Fagbemi, also polled 135 votes to clinch the APC ticket. He was elected unopposed.

Similarly, Moshood Bakare of Omupo Constituency of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State, who is also seeking re-election, emerged at the primary with 228 votes, having contested the primary as sole aspirant of the party.

Bakare, who appreciated the people of his constituency for their confidence in him, announced the enrolment of 250 people in the Kwara State Health Insurance Scheme, just as he also promised to increase the number of beneficiaries of the scheme.

Also, a member of the State Assembly from Ekiti Constituency, Mrs Felicia Ebun Owolabi, was elected as APC candidate after polling 300 votes at the primary that was conducted at the party Secretariat in Osi.

Owolabi told The Herald on telephone that the election took place under a peaceful atmosphere, pointing out that delegates were given the chance to cast their votes without any inducement.
