Group kicks against increase in price of sachet water

Date: 2014-11-27

Some youth under the aegis of Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA) have kicked against increment in price of pure water in Kwara State.

They called on the producers to immediately revert the price from N10 to its original N5, saying water which they described as "God's blessing should not be that expensive."

Daily Trust has reported recently that sachet water producers had jerked up the price after they initially embarked on strike preparatory to the planned hike.

The increment brought sachet water to N120 per bag and N10 per sachet as against the previous N80 and N5 respectively.

However, the youths kicked against it, saying findings in neighbouring Osun, Ekiti, Niger, Kogi and Oyo states indicated that the price of sachet water is N5.

The association made their position known in a letter issued by the leadership of Sachet Water Producers Association of Nigeria, Kwara chapter.

The letter signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Salau and Public Relations Officer, Mallam Muhammed Jagunmo pleaded with sachet water producers "to be considerate in respect of the sudden increase in the price of their product."
