Kwara university scientists to research Ebola
The Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, says the University has directed its scientists to carryout research on Ebola virus disease and other viruses.
Professor Na'Allah, who said this on Thursday while answering questions from VON correspondent, added that the institution had decided to establish laboratories for Ebola and similar diseases.
The university is also to collaborate with UNESCO chair to establish "Ranapower" in adding value to electricity supply in Africa.
He stated that the University is determined to be part of solutions to Africa problems, pointing out that the institution would continue to attract world class academia and create academic excellence under a conducive working environment.
KWASU is determined to be part of solution to Nigeria and Africa problems not part of the problems, that is why we are working on alternative energy through our Ranapower in collaboration with UNESCO Chair by looking and addressing energy crisis".
Professor Na'Allah said the University is planning to reduce government subvention to thirty-thirty five percent by improving on its Internally Generated Revenue in order to effectively drive its human capital development and other viable initiatives.
The Vice Chancellor added that for the institution to achieve this, the University had established Kwara State University Foundation with philanthropists and wealthy individuals as members to source for funds and invest in the University for it to become independent.

"We want to consolidate on the achievements already on ground, the University is a world class university and we have programmes that are of world class status. KWASU is the only University in Nigeria running a programme in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering which we are doing in collaboration with the Kwara State International Aviation College and even the Nigerian Airforce."
"We also have Malete Film Village, where we are going to train actors and actresses and films can also be shot without going anywhere. It is a big project and we have appointed a renowned actress, Joke Silva as the Director of the Village. We are also working on how to harness the tourism of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole through our tourism, hospitality and event management programmes."
Professor Na'Allah said plans are underway to commence programmes in Law and Medicine, saying that his re appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the University was to consolidate on various achievements.
On entrepreneurship education, he was of the view that ordinarily, entrepreneurship should commence right from the primary school level, hence, the resolve of the institution to train teachers in primary and secondary schools on entrepreneurship who will in turn impart the training in elementary school.
Speaking on entrepreneurship funds for the students, Professor Na'Allah explained that funds had been provided and made accessible for interested students to create wealth.
He promised that the University is working towards ensuring one hundred percent accommodation for undergraduate students.
