PDP Promises To Restore Boarding Schools In Kwara
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has promised to restore boarding facilities into secondary schools in the state to address the falling standard of education, if it reclaims power in 2015
Chief Rex Olawoye, the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, made the promise on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.
He said the party would, from 2015/2016 academic session, introduce boarding facilities in some selected secondary schools in each of the three senatorial districts of the state.
Chief Olawoye, who was an aspirant to the House of Representatives in Irepodun, Offa and Oyun Federal Constituency, said the boarding would begin as a pilot scheme in some secondary schools.
He decried the level of decay in the educational sector in the state, adding that a PDP government would restore the state to its old gloryn.
He lamented that over the years, the performance of students in WASC and NECO examinations was nothing to write home about.
The aspirant said that a PDP government would, as from next year's academic session, provide free and qualitative education from primary to secondary schools in the state.
Olawoye said a PDP-led government in the state would provide scholarship for indigent and brilliant students across the state.
Olawoye said PDP would employ more teachers, especially in core subjects like English, mathematics and sciences.
"PDP will accord greater priority to the welfare of teachers in the state to improve on their productivity.
"We will improve their conditions of service through refresher courses, training and retraining programmes will be established."
The aspirant also advised the people to keep and guard their voters' cards as it remained their only weapon to effect a positive change of government.
Olawoye advised the people not to allow any politician to buy their voter card.
"Voter's card is the weapon the people have to bring about provision of social amenities, good road, potable water, good healthcare delivery and security in the society," he added. (NAN)
