Four suspected thieves released on bail

Four persons who were arraigned before an Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly belonging to a gang of thief has been released on bail.

The accused are: Kehinde Salawu, 19 of Odofa's Compound; Idowu Jimoh, 19 of No. 32, Orita Merin Area; Oyewale Munin, 24 of Osunte Area and Sodiq Abdullahi, 20 of Abu Compound, all of Offa, Kwara State.

They appeared in court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and belonging to a gang of thief, contrary to Sections 97 and 306 of Penal Code Law.

The accused were indicted by members of the Offa Township Vigilante having reported at Offa Police Station that while on patrol they arrested the accused.

According to the vigilante, search conducted on the accused led to the recovery of substance suspected to be Indian hemp, rizzler use for wrapping Indian hemp, a can of Star beer.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the Department of Criminal Investigation, Ilorin, revealed that the accused were notorious drug addicts who belong to a gang of thieves and that they were going for a dastardly mission on the day they were arrested.

The prosecutor, Inspector James Odaodu objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the determination of the matter.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Adeyanju who presided over the matter declined to the submission of the prosecutor as he released the accused on bail each at the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in the same amount.

The court adjourned the case till September 15, 2014 for further mention.
