Extension of Voter's Registration Exercise Impossible - INEC

Date: 2014-08-26

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday ruled out the possibility of extending the just concluded Continuous Voter's Registration (CVR) exercise.

The exercise ended yesterday after six days of registration in the FCT and 11 other states under the phase two of the INEC's distribution voters cards and registration of new ones.

The commission said though it acknowledged the rights of qualified Nigerians to be enrolled into the commission's voter's register, extending the just concluded exercise in the 12 states would be logistically and practically impossible.

The INEC, in a statement by the spokesperson of its chairman, Kayode Idowu, however assured that registration centres at local governments would soon be opened for continued registration by prospective Nigerians.

"This phase of the exercise, which commenced on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014, involved the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 11 states namely Yobe, Bauchi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kwara, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ondo, Oyo Delta and Cross River.
