Confab's decision on derivation all-encompassing - Dara
A member of the National Conference, John Dara, has faulted the impression in some quarters that the conference did not take a decision on derivation and other interests connected with allocation of resources.
He stated that a decision was reached that takes care of all interests without letting down the Niger Delta or the northern region.
Dara, who spoke with newsmen at his country home of Ipee, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, also disclosed that the conference resolved that its recommendations should be subjected to the approval of the people through a referendum instead of the National Assembly, save some issues that require direct action of the legislators or the executive.
In the decision that the National Conference reached, there should be an increase in the percentage due to oil-producing states, and on allocation to solid mineral and other resources and for the victims of violent crisis and natural disasters, and the modality should be left for a technical committee to be set up by the government.
Dara, who represented the Middle-Belt states at the confab, argued that with this decision the Niger Delta region would not say it lost anything while the North would not feel let down.
