Residents want govt to relocate illegal traders
An appeal has gone to the Kwara State government from residents of CocaCola Road in Ilorin to disperse roadside traders who have taken over the streets.
Speaking with Community News in Ilorin, some residents of the area said the road leading to the street, off Unity Road, had been taken over by different illegal kiosks where alcohol and other hard substances were sold at night.
It was gathered that the street, which has the Cocacola and Sevenup bottling companies located on it, has become a serious danger to motorists because of the illegal activities.
A visit to the area at night revealed that the entry point of the street from Unity Road was congested with different alcohol joints, making it difficult for motorists to have smooth movement.
One of the residents of the area, Mrs. Ajoke Lawal, raised the alarm on the present situation of the area, saying multiple deaths resulting from break failure was imminent.
She said that heavy trucks ply the road on daily basis, and called on state government to intervene on time to prevent the looming danger in the area.
Also speaking, another resident of the area, Alfa muraina Ajao, said that activities of illegal traders in the area portend danger.
He, however, appealed to the state government to address the development before it goes beyond redemption.
