Letter to My Future Husband - Anifowoshe Titilope

Date: 2014-07-10

I am writing you this note not only to express how I feel about you but to also inform you about the things I will cherish in you. I hope this piece meets you in good health and peace of mind.

I really don’t know if you will be a Nigerian, come from any part of Africa, Europe, Asia, America or in any part of the world, I do not know when, where and how we are going to meet but I hope we meet on a Friday  simply because the angels are always around on a day like that and the real reason why I need the angel is to help explain to you on my behalf how I feel about you maybe you will fully understand the angels when they tell you how I feel.

Let me start by introducing myself to you. I was born a decade and eight years ago in the continent of Africa, in a “craze world” called Nigeria. I am the Liberal Legal Eagle . I am at present trying to survive the stress of University of Ilorin. Like I said earlier, I don’t know if you will be a Nigerian but if in any way you end up being a Nigerian, I don’t care if you are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Uhrobo, Ibira or any other tribe even the religion you practice does not matter to me as long as you live in peace with your neighbours and other members of your community.

Presently, I am not enjoying my existence in this craze world (Nigeria) where there is no future hope for the upcoming generation, where majority of the youths are living in despair and have no option than to engage in internet scam(yahoo boys), look up to Europe, America and even far Asia. A craze world where the big thieves (Authority rogues and robbers) get a less jail term for stealing big, while if the small thieves (internet fraudsters) are caught, they are used as scapegoats by the EFCC and are sentenced to long time in imprisonment. A craze world, where the mass of its populace live in a state of destitute while its political and religious leaders buy private jets and live in a luxury home with the mass of the population resources even when 65% of the citizen are homeless as estimated by the UNDP while 71% of them live below $1 per day.

Unfortunately, I am among this disadvantaged class in that craze world who live in a densely populated area (ghetto), in a face-to-face apartment, where over ten people live in a single room, where close to forty to fifty people, if am not exaggerating share a single toilet and bathroom. Worst still, we even queue for one another to take our bath or use the toilet. If in anyway, you are among these disadvantaged class in that craze world, I don’t care as long as you are preparing to move out of that “unbearable suffering”. Well, if maybe you are presently among the privileged class who feed with above $3 dollar per day, live in comfort and drive a luxury car. Then, I will say lucky you.

I really don’t need sex because I get fuck*d everyday by the Nigeria government who have gang raped us its citizen and make life unbearable for us to live. All I want from you is an unending, unconditional and a true love unlike the “artificial love” we get from our leaders who created an atmosphere of poverty in the country and pretended to want to alleviate it by introducing a poverty alleviation programme where commercial motor cycle and tricycle are shared to jobless youths under the disguise of youth empowerment programme. I wonder the kind of youth they want to empower with motorcycle (okada) and tricycle (keke Napep), when in the real sense, these measures are nothing more than the politics of deliberate exclusion of the youth from governance.

There is nothing sweeter in this craze world I live than the hope of getting married to you someday. Your astonishing handsome look does not really matter to me because it will fade away. All that matters to me is your ability to face a challenge even when all hope seems lost, your good sense of humour is yet again another thing that will attract you to me and make me stay glued with you forever and I hope you are friendly and care about the needy.

Every hour, Every time, everyday and every moment I think about you, I get the biggest smile on my face hoping that one day, you will finally be mine. I need you to need me like I need you. I know it might sound funny but I secretly hope you are reading this and one day you will be the father my unborn child(ren). I don’t want to change anything about you, you are amazing just the way you are except your last name. I’m imagining that day, the day I will finally rest on your shoulders and will finally say you are mine. It always gives me great joy in my heart when I think about the day we will meet.

There are days I miss you even though we haven’t met yet and there are days I don’t. Either way, I remember you every day. You are always in my thoughts, meeting you is going to be the best part of my life. I can’t wait to see you. Till we meet, take good care of your body, soul and mind for me. My regards to your parents, if in anyway they are both still alive.

Forever yours

Your Future Wife,

Legal Eagle
