Youths in the country have been charged to acquaint themselves with vocational and skills acquisition to position them for self employment.

The Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Barrister Mahmud Abdulraheem, stated this at a press conference organised by a Public Relations Group, Foot Print Consult.

According to him, this remains a potent way of curtailing over dependence on white collar jobs as well as the staggering unemployment rate, pointing out that the feat would be a re-awakening for youths to venture into viable but legitimate activities that will make them self sufficient.

Barrister Abdulraheem, who lauded the students for organizing the programme, added that the initiative was a clear pointer that the country will attain meaningful emancipation with the present generation of vast youths.

In the same vein, a lecturer in the department, Dr Saudat Abdul-baqi, lauded their efforts, and urged them to stay abreast of global innovations so as to be able to compete favourably with others and impact positively on their immediate society.

The leader of the group, Mr Edward Innocent, explained that Foot Print Consults was focused at reaching out to Public Relations leaders and others from other fields of professional practice to engage in fruitful and positive relationships, even as the group is committed to producing changes through innovations in the public relation profession.

The programme is part of a course under Mass Communication to train the students on how to become good public relations practitioners.
