NOA Charges Border Communities On Security Consciousness
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has organised a sensitisation programme for the people of the border communities in Kwara State on the need to be security conscious.
The Chief Orientation and Mobilisation Officer in Baruten local government area of the Kwara State, Mr Yakubu Abubakar urged the people to be security conscious in view of the problem of insurgency in parts of the country.
He gave the advice while addressing members of the Police Community Relations Committee in Kosubosu, the headquarter of the local council.
The NOA official said that most of the attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents were unleashed in the border areas like theirs.
According to him, it has now become imperative for anybody that notices strange faces and movements in the area to alert security agencies in the area and share the information with them.
"Everybody has a role to play especially commercial motorists and motorcyclists because they carry people in and out of the area.
"If you suspect any passenger in your vehicle, please know how to wisely alert the police," he said.
The NOA boss also raised alarm over the rate of drug abuse among the youth in the border area.
He told the patent medicine dealers to be wary of the types of people they sell some drugs to.
He decried the high abuse of tutolin syrup and lacasera drink among the youth, saying the situation was becoming worrisome.
Abubakar also sued for peace during the forthcoming general elections, warning politicians against campaign of calumny that could result in violence in the area.
