Baraje Urges Nigerians To Embrace Peace

Date: 2014-05-04

A former National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Kawu Baraje, on Saturday urged Nigerians to engage in activities that promote peace and foster unity.

Baraje, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said in a message to the 13th Gure Day celebration in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara that peace was necessary for development.

Represented by Rep. Rafiu Ibrahim of the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, he urged other communities in the area to emulate Gure in celebrating peace and unity among their people.

In his address, the Chairman of the Gure Descendants' Union, Alhaji Salihu Woru, stressed the need for the people to contribute to the progress of the community.

Woru advised the people to see education as a treasure, hence the need to strive hard to attain quality education.

"Everybody should work hard and identify with a means of livelihood; identify with something that will impact on your community, the state and the country at large.

"We are not unaware of the spate of insecurity in the country. It is now pertinent for everyone to be security alert and endeavour to report any suspicious movement to security agencies," he said.

He also preached against violence in the forthcoming general elections, saying that the electoral exercise should not be taken as a do-or-die election.

Woru, however, lauded the recent centenary celebration in the country and called on the delegates to the national conference to discuss what would take the country to the next level. (NAN)
