Ilorin Emirate Youths Advise Lawal to Hand-Over to Deputy

Date: 2003-05-02

THE Ilorin Emirate Youths Forum yesterday advised the defeated governor of Kwara State in the last poll, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal to hand over to his deputy Deacon Simon Sayomi before May 29, 2003 in order to prevent him from taking actions that could set the state ablaze. The spokesman of the forum Mallam Alege Atolagbe in his address at a press conference in Ilorin reminded the outgoing governor that, "Kwara State is a culturally bound society with high regard for traditional rulers, perhaps more than for elected transcient leaders."

Recalling the similar incident in Kano State, Atolagbe said, "we are mindful of the mayhem that resulted some time ago in Kano State when the governor of the state, Alh. Abubakar Rimi decided to issue a query to the Emir of Kano, Alh. Ado Bayero. We do not want a similar state-wide mayhem to engulf our beloved state which regrettably now wears the lable of disharmony since you assumed the mantle of leadership of the state four years ago."
